Inked & Awesome - Jennifer Walker

Name: Jennifer Walker
Age: 21
Website: facebook.com/jen115

How old were you when you got your first tattoo and what was it?
I got my first tattoo when I was 16 years old. It's song lyrics by a band called Crimpshrine and wraps around my wrist. It reads; 'Another Day, Another Goal.'
Although I was very young, and it may not be the best looking tattoo I have, it is not something I regret doing as I have many fond memories of that time that the tattoo reminds me of.

What is your employment status/occupation and do your tattoos effect it?
I am currently working in fast food as I am between college and university. my tattoos are all on show as my uniform has very short sleeves, however, this is not a problem for my employer or the customers. I very often get compliments from the customers and they spark conversations on pieces they have and on the stories behind them. I find people to be more interested and fascinated by them rather than put off or intimidated.

What is your favorite piece? What is the meaning behind it?
My favorite piece is a pocket watch I have on my upper arm. It is framed with roses and has a section in the middle with the cogs and wheels showing. I got this tattoo because the image is one I have always admired, it also reminds me that time is a very precious thing and life is short!

Do you have a favorite artist who you go back to or do you collect different artists work? Why?
I have a specific artist i go back to for larger pieces but I also have collected different artists work for my smaller tattoos. The reason I go back to the same artist for the larger pieces is because I like my tattoos to flow together with a similar style. After a few visits there is also a bond between you and the artist which helps when planning a new tattoo as they know what you like and the style you prefer.

Have you faced any specific discrimination due to being tattooed?
I am happy to say I have not received any discrimination. I find people want to ask questions about them and understand more about the process. Even in jobs I have had there has been no problem.

Any other comments?
Tattoos are an art form to be appreciated and admired. Never judge a book by its cover!
