My Top 5 - 90s TV Shows

Some might say that because I was only born in 1990 that I didn't get to fully enjoy the television delights like some that may of been born in the 80's, being only a child during the decade obviously. However from being a young child, through my teen years, right up to now I have always loved everything 90's. Like come on, who doesn't?!
So if you checked out my 'Top 5 Childhood Toys' and liked it, I'm sure you'll like this too. :)
(As always, the following are in no particular order)

The family comedy sitcom of Home Improvement is often overlooked in other similar lists I've seen but was one of the first that sprung to mind for me. The voice of ever popular Buzz Lightyear from the Disney Toy Story films and
lead in a film that made it into my Top 5 Christmas movies, Tim Allen, is most known for his role in this show as Tim 'The Tool Man' Taylor. Said to be inspired by the legends that are Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy (to be featured in a future list) his comedy and personality completely appeal to me and is the main reason for my enjoyment of 'Home Improvement'.

Duuh!! What would a 90's TV favorites list be without this legendary show. Running from 1989 to 1993 'Saved By The Bell' was originally named 'Good Morning, Miss Bliss' and aired on Disney Channel for it's first season, however it adopted the name it is known by when season 2 was released on NBC. Did you know that? I didn't until now! When I watched it, it was on Nickelodeon (the best children/teen tv channel in the 90s for those without Disney channel) and I can now watch it whenever I want as I have all series on my laptop - oh yeah!

All I've got to say is....
'In west Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground was where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool

And all shootin some b-ball outside of the school

When a couple of guys who were up to no good

Started making trouble in my neighborhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
She said 'You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air'

I'll stop there. Do you know the full song too?? haha

This cult classic sitcom ran for a staggering 10 seasons over 10 years meaning everyone born in the 90s has to of seen it unless they'd been living in a cave. From 'The Rachel' hairstyle, to Joey's 'How you doin' ' phrase and numerous 'Central Perk' inspired cafes around the world, Friends was more than a TV show influencing many people from it's debut in 1994 to present day.
After on and off (hopeful) rumors of a movie, since the series ending in 2004, they have unfortunately been finally silenced by one of the co-creators this year stating that  "Friends was about that time in your life when your friends are your family and once you have a family, there's no need anymore."
Thank goodness we have the complete box set!

Something I watch almost everyday (yes, even all day today) and defiantly my favorite casual viewing show of all time is Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Probably where my first love of all things magical - aside from the world of Disney - appeared , everything about Sabrina keeps my interest no matter how many times I see each episode.
Celebrity guests from Penn and Teller, Britney Spears, Dick Van Dyke, NSync and Jerry Springer to Kenan and Kel, The Smashing Pumpkins and so many more up the 'cool' factor a zillion notches, while the subtle moral lessons are more than just a story line.

There are so many more I could of added to this list. Kenan and Kel, Clarissa Explains it All, Sister Sister to state just a few but I'm happy with the above list. What do you think? Are you favorites on the list? If not what are/were they?

  9. "Home Improvement" was a great show! Sometimes the lines/scripts weren't great (I read that the actors eventually became frustrated with it) but it is the kind of show that isn't around anymore today.

    2. Oh my gosh!! That's a travesty. I love that show and have all the DVDs, but I must admit that I'm not positive that going into it new would make it a thrilling show for you. So much of it for me is nostalgia, but I still recommend it. Especially the later seasons. :-)

  13. I'm not very good with dates or even years so I have no clue what show aired when but I did love watching the 5 that you've mentioned. I do sometimes I watch shows in reruns so they're probably aren't from the 90's.

I just browse the iTunes store which reminded me of some shows like The Pretender, Fraser, Charmed, Lois and Clark: the new adventures of superman, Due South, Seinfield -- all my favorites.

I suppose you watch more comedies than me.

    have a sweet day.
