It's My Life - Winner, Winner!

You know how I'm a bird watcher and beach treasure hunter yeah? Well lately I've been getting into the world of metal detecting too! We haven't yet invested in our own detector - that's coming soon - but we've been watching a few different guys on YouTube for the past half a year or so sparking our interest even more.
Back when I was in high school I actually started collecting coins and have a small trove at my parents home including old British currency and European coins from  before the euro came into circulation, so when I saw that one of my favorite detector-ists, Dave of Relic Hunting Scotland, had some pretty sweet coins to giveaway in competitions I had to enter.
I entered for a couple weeks and never thought anything of it but was way too excited when my name was announced last week!

JD Photography - Worlds Cutest Couple

I have to say that hope you all actually enjoy looking at my photography because I've been doing and posting about it quite alot recently. I try my hardest to space my posts out and have equal amounts of each but I also don't want to force posts just because I haven't done one for a while, hence an overload of photograph posts for you as it's what I've been up to! (All these shoots have been unpaid FYI).

I Wish, List V.14

An accidental theme occurred while compiling this list, can you tell? Such a surprising theme it is too. Not!
I've given up on internet 'window' shopping  and indeed real life window shopping because let's face it we are no where near being able to treat ourselves to more than a pizza.
Anyway, it's still good to dream or so it says tattooed behind my ear, meaning trawling the internet for a half dozen items I could use in my life to include in these monthly lists.

Out and About - Arbeia Roman Fort and Arcade Fun.

This has been a long time coming. Actually it's been since October 4th 2012 when Jake and I had our last date day alone with out Baker to Seaton Deleval Hall, so last Saturday was fully enjoyed.
My parents were down visiting as my Mam and I were taking part in the race for life on Sunday and they generously offered to dog-sit Baker for the day.
We took the opportunity and headed off for South Shields and the Arbeia Roman Fort , history obviously being a big interest to us, the Roman period inparticular for me. It was a total goose chase trying to find the right bus and in the end we just hopped on the Metro which was another first for Jake, then a short walk to the museum, excavation and reconstruction site.

I love learning things and did as soon as we starting looking around. Did you know that the Romans were actually the first people to use inscribed headstones to mark a grave? They had loads on show too that had been discovered by the archaeologists at that actual site. As well as stone, pottery and metal artifacts there were human remains and skulls which really interested me to see. The grave with the full skeleton was the only reconstruction to show what a Roman grave looked like and what the deceased was buried with. Eg. This grave was of a female, identified because of the hair pins next to the head.

Charity Spotlight V.8

I've been planning on doing a post surround this charity or similar charities for a long time but when a certain news website story popped up on my Facebook timeline I knew the time was right now.

The charity is Help for Heroes and although I have no service men in my family I feel very strongly about the brave, selfless, amazing people who have risked their lives for their countries.
That being said and if you have read my 'If I Were President' post, you'll know that alongside the elderly I think ex-soldiers etc need to be way better looked after by our governments than they are.

The news story in particular that hit a nerve was that of Christian Nock. He is an ex-soldier turned B&B owner who is now homeless after the collapse of his business. The most touching part of his story however is that for the past 344 days (at the time of writing this post) he has been walking the complete coastline of Britain, sleeping 'rough' every night of his journey, in the name of raising funds and awareness for Help for Heroes.

Above is a short news story from the Sky Tyne and Wear website (the full article is here) which gives a little insight into his time so far and where he's been staying while in my area. To support or offer a place to stay for Christian (remember only gardens and sheds etc) go 'like' his Facebook page and keep up to date with his travels.
You can also donate to his sponsor page HERE.

Thank you to all service people for all you do.

How To - Keep Dogs Cool With Special Ice Lollys!

As promised to my Facebook page fans (You're not one? Why the heck not?! Get over there - so much funness!), today's post is a simple step by step of how to make ice treats especially for your canine companion.

It's extra important in weather like this to keep all pets and animals well hydrated and cool. But if your dog is as stubborn as Baker and his best friend Rex, it's easier said than done...

Inked and Awesome - Announcement...!

Happy Sunday my fellow body art enthusiasts! I guess some of you may be wondering where this weeks awesomely inked interviewee is. Well, I'm sorry to say there isn't one and seeing as the interest level in participation over the past few weeks has dwindled dramatically I am regrettably putting the series on a slight hiatus.

Since it's inception in November of last year there have been 35 posts in the series all of which can be found HERE and the very first post, mine, (which is super outdated) is HERE!

For anyone unfamiliar or just not 100% clear on what Inked & Awesome is, it's simply a chance for visibly and/or heavily tattooed individuals to share their personality and story of life with tattoos, proving that the art on our skin doesn't mean we are all the same.
I decided to start the series after having encountered unfair treatment in the workplace as well as discrimination with the public due to my appearance - people are too quick to judge and stereotype.

So far I have had mothers, a Police community support officer, a carer and way more take part, all of which have proved themselves to be amazing people and alot more than just a delinquent rebel covered in tattoos.
In more recent months I have be backed by Bizarre magazine via their social networks as well as in email talks with Inked Mag's editor. Unfortunately both leads have dwindled and those who showed interest have proven to be let downs. This doesn't mean I'll be giving up or ending the series, however I will be taking a break and resuming in September of this year. I hope in that time I can start to rouse new interest and build a back log of interviews once again.

I would be so appreciative if you would be willing to take part, if not ask your friends, family, parents, siblings, colleagues, anyone inked!! It's simple, just email theSweetnessTalks@gmail.com and ask for more info.
You could also share the below image on your social networks if you were feeling extra lovely. ;)

Lastly, thank you so very much to all who have supported, enjoyed and most importantly contributed to this series thus far - you guys really are awesome.

My Soundtrack V. 11

So, trying to live up to my promise that I'd share some of my more diverse music tastes I have been on a hunt to fall in love with some of the bands I've seen live or were in love with in my teens.
I went through Yellowcard, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Long Distance Calling, The Hold Steady and then finally stopped skipping through and listened to a full album suggested by Jake.

This song re-kindled and reminded me how much I loved this band in my early teens, so much so I'm pretty sure they are mentioned in my middle school leavers document!

Then because I'm too lazy to get off my bottom and get my actual CDs, (or the excuse I'll use is Baker was sleeping on my feet and I didn't want to disturb him)

TAG - Get Your Freak On!

1. What's a nickname only your family calls you?
There's only one I can think of and it's that my Mam calls me 'Dee'. Self explanatory really being the first letter of my name. Jake also say's that I have to tell you about his pet name for me, 'Poo Pant' or 'Pant of Poo'. He's so mature eh?

2. What's a weird habit of yours?

I scratch the roof of my mouth with my tongue sort of, it makes a noise that annoys alot of people - mainly Jake.

3. Do you have any weird phobias?

JD Photography - Prom Princess!

At the end of last month, I was very excited to be asked to attend my first photo job in months and a very special one at that. The princess above isn't Belle from Beauty and the Beast, it's my enviably stunning cousin - Shanelle on the night of her Year 11 prom (age 16, last year of high school for you Yanks).
I thank goodness I was only there from around 6pm-8pm and not all day because when we arrived it was a full on stress zone haha, completely comparable to the atmosphere in a Brides room on the wedding day!

I'll leave it by saying if you'd like to check out more photos from the night CLICK HERE , I hope you enjoy the photos and would highly appreciate your support in 'like'ing my photography facebook page.

Oh and yes, that is all her own real hair, no extensions in sight...!

My Top 5 - Video Games For Non-Gamers.

The time has come for yet another list of 'My Top 5's! This time a handful of video games suitable for the girly gamer, shy of football and 1st/3rd person shooters. Enjoy.

In my eyes, the best game ever! I get bored and confused easily with games, unable to work out what to do next meaning never completing a full storyline. However this was the first game I finished fully, well Fable 2 to be precise and the glowing 'breadcrumb' trail was my best friend! Everything from the era it's set in, to the all star voice actors eg. ZoĆ« Wanamaker and John Cleese, compliment the quests and game play to win the game trilogy top spot on this list.

Out and About - Birthday BBQ!

Once in a blue moon I take the trip up to my home town, usually for a special event and now it's even more rare since my car died last April. However, it's sort of a tradition being there for my 'uncle' (super close family friends) Boydy's annual birthday barbecue! With my Uncle Sean unable to attend and therefore not travelling via car, Jake had to stay home to dog sit while I took the train up to Berwick-Upon-Yuck. He didn't mind though as his friend came round to keep him company, playing Xbox, eating pizza and drinking Monster energy of course.
I kept my appearance a surprise and turned up at the house, after a visit with my lovely Nana, to a great reception.

JD Photography - Project 365 6/12.

Half way! So the 6th month is over and done with and it also marks the 1 month anniversary living in our new home. I have to say it really has flown. Bakers made friends, we've made friends with our neighbours, which was completely unexpected to ever happen let alone within a month of living here.
We've also accumulated alot more bits and pieces, furniture and stuff than I expected as we were all set for a few months sleeping and sitting on the futon. I can't express my gratitude for having a bed!

The weather has been up and down meaning photos from lovely sunny days one day then rain droplets the next, but that's nothing new for the British summertime. It hasn't stopped us spending time with family and my highlight photo of the month has to be of my cousin Shanelle on her prom night. Keep an eye out here for a post full of photos from that night!

You can check out The Sweetness: 365 by clicking here  and follow it by clicking here. Did you hear that if I reach at least 50 followers by the end of the year I'll do another year?! ...Go on, give me some motivation. :)
