My Top 5 || Disney Songs Catchier Than 'Let It Go'.

With 13 award winning songs since 1940 and hundreds more that were, could and should of been contenders, it always astounds me that the 14th academy award winner 'Let It Go' is the one to of stuck in the spot light far longer than necessary.
From little girls running around in ice blue dressing screeching 'Let it goo, let it gooo!' over and over, to older kids blasting it through their smart phone on repeat, I for one have heard enough of it.

Therefore, today I bring you 5 of what I think to be the best Disney songs of which I'd much rather listen to on a loop. In no particular order...

A Spoon full of Sugar - Mary Poppins

'In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun and *snap*, the jobs a game!' is one Disney quote in particular that I adore, if you know me you'll understand why. And so I think this has a place on my list due to it being my cleaning theme song.

Prince Ali - Aladdin

This has become my go to tune to sing, especially to Baker, and one that highly annoys Jake. I love how much you can hear Robin Williams actual voice as Genie and the style of music, kind of hinting at a traditional Persian style.

Under the Sea - The Little Mermaid

When you know all the words - yes, even the 'rap' - how can't it be in your top 5?!

I Wanna Be Like You - The Jungle Book

This is where I started to struggle and had to ask YouTube to help! After not so much deliberation I realized that this epic jungle anthem is king of the swingers! Tell me that you manage to sit completely still when this song comes on. Dare you.

I Just Can't Wait To Be King - The Lion King

Not the obvious Hakuna Matata but a classic from my favorite childhood movie. I actually have a great cover of this, from a band I saw supporting Reel Big Fish years ago, on my phone and like to replace the words so that it relates to Baker! My little Prince :)

A controversial subject I'm sure and many people may agree and disagree, goodness - I even disagree with myself as it was so hard to narrow it down to five haha, but I did it!
I'm also including some of your guys favorites too, seeing as the response was just so amazing! I took to Twitter to ask what your favorite 'non-Frozen' songs were are these were the replies...

I couldn't forget my Facebook family and wasn't let down by them either with lots more fab suggestions! (I tried my best to get rid of everyones last names etc for privacy reasons :P)
Now it's your turn! List your top 5 in the comments! Do you agree with any of mine? Or see any in the social media responses I got?

  1. I did a post similar to this recently too, I'm a bit of a fangirl when it comes to Frozen (I have this thing though where I'm most excited about the most recent thing, like, short term extreme fangirling) but there are some much better songs out there, I can't believe how crazy people are for Frozen.

Prince Ali is one of those ones that get stuck in my head for days, and I'm not complaining! Some of my non-Frozen favs:
The Lion King 2 - He Lives in You
    Hercules - Zero to Hero
Mulan - I'll Make a Man Out of You

(and this is my post, although Frozen is the top AH: http://www.northeastnerd.co.uk/2015/03/top-10-disney-soundtracks.html)

  2. When I first heard the Frozen soundtrack, I was SO in love with Let It Go and all of the other songs and I listened to them on repeat... now I can't stand to listen to the soundtrack because it's just everywhere :( It's sad because I really liked the film and was so excited for when it came out and now it's just been overdone.
I completely agree with all of these, Prince Ali is definitely one of my favourites and I'm pretty sure I can sing the entire of Under the Sea including the rap too haha!

    1. It never was really THAT amazing to me. Of course I liked it and the movie but now it's been done to death and I'm a little bitter that this one movie is overshadowing all the other amazing releases.
I'm glad you agree with them :) Prince Ali is more popular that I thought!

  6. I love, love, love these old songs, simply classics that you just can't beat! :) However, I must admit that Tangled has to be my absolute favourite and that's the soundtrack that's usually playing in my house! :) xx

    1. Exactly!!! Oh Tangled is fab too. I wish that had had more promotion and hype around it as Frozen had. Very underrated I think.

  7. Oh I love Prince Ali and Under the Sea - I also have to add Zero to Hero, Out There from Hunchback of Notre Dame and Be Prepared from Lion King, Friends on the Other Side because I am a huge Princess and the Frog fan and of course Make a Man Out of You, always gets me singing! Though I do love Frozen, I think that thee are some classic Disney songs which were forgotten in the wake of Elsa's solo (I still catch myself singing it all the time though!) Great post! - Tasha

  10. I have to say, I do love much of the Frozen soundtrack. I mean it was written by the same couple as The Book Of Mormon and Avenue Q. Two of my favourite musicals of all time. The first of which Josh Gad who played Olaf also started in. Not to mention the fact Idina Menzel is also in two of my favourite musicals of all time, Rent and Wicked. Tbh, Idina Menzel could sing the train schedule and I'd be belting it out not too long after. I also have a huge crush on Kristen Bell AND Jonathan Groff. Such musical theatre influences by people I personally love made it a winner for me. However there's still some songs I skip. Still, some of the old Disney songs will always be timeless. No harm in loving both! My biggest problem with Frozen is that I think it's a crime Jonathan Groff only got a comedy song and not something more beautiful because he has one of my favourite male voices. D: Anyway! Great post! :D

  11. Great post! The Prince Ali song has literally taken over my life... I have that song stuck in my head every. single. day and you'll definitely hear me humming it at regular intervals. It's also on a CD to play in my boyfriends car. Seriously... It's a problem. Love all the others too but I gotta admit, I am a fan of Frozen and Let It Go as well! xx

    1. It is one of the best I think! Very catchy and fun! Ooh really?! Cars is one of the only films (excluding Into the Woods) that I couldn't really get into. Not for the music though, just in general.
