'Tomorrowland' 2015 [Movie Review]

[Warning. May Contain Spoilers]

Following on from my movie review of the smash hit Cinderella, I thought that I'd make the most of my need of seeing the latest Disney flicks on release day and review this too!
Unlike the afor mentioned, I definitely feel like Tomorrowland (loosely based on one of the 'lands' at Disney World closest to the main man Mr D's heart) didn't have as much hype behind it, nor did I see anywhere near as much advertising etc. Never the less, I for sure went into the cinema full of anticipation and excitement.

(If you haven't seen the movie yet, or the trailer, check it out below to get an idea of what it's about)

We'll kick off talking about the casting shall we? Obviously the main big name here is George Clooney and to be honest he isn't someone I'm majorly interested in but it's not like I dislike him either, so the actors weren't why I wanted to see this so much. Country star Tim McGraw and well know Hugh Laurie also make appearances and although I didn't recognize him at first I loved Tim McGraw's little part. As for the females, I'd never heard of the other two leading actresses at first but have to say Raffey Cassidy - as Athena - is one to watch, what a little star!

Now I review a movie on a few basis; entertainment, acting, effects and how many times I wonder how much longer is left. Now it seems to me upon reading 'professional' reviews that the general thoughts on this film is that is was a let down, disappointing and boring...which makes me wonder what on Earth I was watching because not once did any of those feelings creep into my mind.
From the get go I loved the style of storytelling, the narration  from the characters we hadn't yet met and the counting down clock reminiscent of a certain island (any Lost fans?). As the plot moved on I thought the development and background was well placed without being too in depth, then the little (and big I suppose) turning moments and surprises kept you very much interested in what was happening next. A quick mention must also go to the quality of the effects, but that isn't surprising when Disney has always been top of the game and A113 Productions were behind it all.

That all being said, I would of liked the movie to of been that tiny bit longer if it meant the ending not being so abrupt. The typical Disney-style morals and lessons were put across well, though the very last scenes left me feeling a little like the last chapter of Harry Potter did. I wanted to know more. It was left happy and to quote JK.Rowling, as if 'All was well.' The only difference here being it would be an acceptable ending if there were going to be a sequel...but that, we do not know.

Full of awesome quotes, like the one in the image above, Tomorrowland is ultimately about hope, imagination and following your dreams - in true Mr Walt Disney fashion. I think the lessons taught in this PG Disney entertainment movie need to be taken seriously, as the talk of not taking action to 'change the world' hit me (as a environmentalist) hard and I hope that this moral of the story really is one that will affect people.

Have you seen Tomorrowland yet? If you have what did you think and if not will you go to see it? I also spotted a 'hidden mickey/donald' or two besides the obvious which was cool. Let me know if you did too!

  1. Cannot wait to see this!! They actually purposely played down the advertising for this movie so people wouldn't know what they were about to see! A lot different than your typical movie trailers where they only show the highlights of the movies! I love Britt Robertson! (lead actress) I think she's such an amazing little actress! Glad to hear you enjoyed it! :)

    1. I know right!!! I was singing the song pretty loudly in the cinema. Luckily we were in one of the 'intimate' screens with only 4 rows and half a dozen people haha.
      Thank you :)

  5. I really loved it too but I do agree about the ending being quite quick! A boy went to the toilet during the important bit at the end & I couldn't help feeling sorry for him because the whole film was building up to that point! Great review :) xx

    1. I'm glad you thought so too. Ah no way!! What a shame for him, I'd never go to the loo during a movie at the cinema for that reason haha.

  6. I've wanted to watch this film since I saw the trailer, and I think it looks amazing. I've not seen it yet, but hope to soon. I went to see Pitch Perfect 2 last week, which I was going to review, but I'm unsure whether I will or not. I would of done it sooner if I didn't feel like I was dieing with this silly bug I've had x

Even if it's just for your own reference and looking back on in the future. Hope you're feeling better now. I had a bug the other week - not fun.
