Talking Points.
Seeing as I can't express my opinion openly on social media without a thundering backlash of 'how stupid can you be' 'you aren't a female then!', I thought I would at least put in my 2 cents here. (If you don't agree please just accept that we disagree and do not leave bad comments or contact me via social media to tell me how much a bad person I am.)
The dreaded 'Tampon Tax'. Blurgh - I hate saying that and wished such things didn't need to be discussed but it's kinda been blown completely out of proportion now and I need to say something. See, I agree with it. Do you understand the vast amount of unsustainable waste that these things cause per female, per year? It's ridiculous. Couple that with the fact no one has batted an eye lid or said they should be entitled to free sanitary products until this past month and the fact that there are alternatives (ie. reusable cups etc) then why shouldn't tampons be taxable?
I'd rather pay a little more considering the substantial impact they have on the environment than moan and want even more free stuff from the government. Where do you think the money would come from to supply all women with what they need, when people like me have to pay a bunch for LIFESAVING things like inhalers?!
I'll probably regret posting this because I can just sense a million evil eyes boring into my skull as I type, but to be honest I've lost so many friends, followers and even views lately that I really don't care anymore.

  1. Awww that sucks that you've had such a backlash but... I completely agree with you.

When we have things like mooncups then tampons and pads are not necessary. I've saved so much money since I stopped buying those kind of things about 4 years ago now. Awful for the environment plus such a bother.

I recently signed a petition to make inhalers free and I'm lucky enough to not suffer with asthma. That's what people should be worrying about. As a tax payer I'd rather my money to go on medical aids rather than products that aren't exactly necessary when we have (in my personal opinion) better alternatives.

    Keep smiling :)

    1. When ever you have a different opinion to the masses it always happens - I have faced so many nasty words on Twitter due to my beliefs so I just keep my mouth shut lol.

Ooh, I'll have to give that a Google, haven't seen that petition. Obviously I do agree with having to pay for prescriptions, though people who's life may depend on it should get a reduced rate or whatever.

Thanks so much for commenting <3

    2. I know the pain. Once I said to a friend 'Vegetarian food is easy' and he deleted me off Facebook and wouldn't talk to me for a month saying I was forcing my views on him. It was laughable though and we are friends again now. That's literally all I had said to him.

  2. Oh and also (sorry, I was distracted with my rant hat on) where did you get that Hogwarts letter from? I'm VERY jealous.

  3. I adore the photo of the Hogwarts letter - little bit of everyday magic there for you Danielle :D I definitely agree with what you said about sustainability - I recently just read another blog post talking about that and I had no idea, if only these companies would invest in less plastics and alternatives, though I keep hearing of more and more eco friendly options on the market, as well as the moon cup, which is re-usable but apparently people are put off by the ick factor. It's something I'm looking into as I desperately want to reduce the plastics I use, but the more I research this, they're just everywhere and in everything! Having said that though, lovely list of Halloween/scary films there too and I hope you had a good Halloween! - Tasha

    1. It's so amazing! I'm gonna get a box frame to frame it and put it up on the wall :)
It's like anything - there are always alternatives so I have no idea why certain methods still exist. Maybe one day the world will change.
It was a super quiet Halloween but good. Hope you did too!

  4. That Hogwarts letter is amazing! I can see were your coming from with the whole 'tampon tax' debate but I can't say I feel the same on all points. But that's okay. We're all adults with different opinions! It annoys me so much when the twitter trolls jump on people for having an opinion or original thought! What's the point of Twitter if not to discuss and debate? Life would be boring if we were all clones.

    1. Isn't it awesome?! haha I'm so excited about it.
Well exactly - some people need to learn to agree to disagree instead of getting mad about things haha! I've had so many people go crazy at me on Twitter for my opinions that I just don't bother anymore.

  5. Great post, Danielle! I love the Hogwarts letter photo! And the list of things you did, classic! I watched Hocus Pocus last week too! :D About the tampon tax, I only heard about it through the radio last week and as an American living in the UK I had to say I was a little shocked at all the hubbub surrounding this. I've always had to pay tax on feminine products in the USA, never questioned it and I agree that there are better alternatives to the use of disposable sanitary products and if there is going to be a surcharge on plastic bags there ought to be a tax on other products that create excess waste. We all know these products to create such waste and know that there are alternatives to them. I agree with you and don't think that makes us any less female than someone who thinks the opposite. It's good to discuss these things and have healthy debates about them. ❤️

    1. Thank you!
Glad to hear it ;) haha I think it would be easier to ask who didn't watch it!

I don't think people here in the UK realize how good they have it! Free healthcare etc I think they get greedy. Make half of them move to the US and I bet they wouldn't moan as much.

Thing is, you don't have to use alternatives, but don't complain about having to pay for the ones that pollute our world. :) Thank you for sharing your opinion.

  6. I didn't even know Tampon Tax was a thing until every started going crazy about it. Oh well. It is was it is. Clearly no one cared about it 6 months ago... why care now. The thing about opinions is they are just that, people seem to have forgotten that opinions are not fact, therefore they are not right or wrong. Maybe some people's opinions could be seen as morally wrong, yes, but for the most part we aren't talking about these opinions. I'm sick of watching people trying to force their opinion on others because they believe their opinion is fact. Grrr.

Let's not get all angry and ranting - let's wait until we're in person haha!
You know, I quite fancy a good old movie watching session now you've mentioned all those movies!

    1. Exactly. It's always existed though, it's not like they just voted to bring it in - people need to simmer down.

Are you a Netflixer? Amazon Prime?
