In Dedication To An Inspiration: Walt Disney

Tomorrow marks what would have been Mr Walter Elias Disney's 114th birthday! There isn't another person that ever lived or lives, that I'd have liked to meet more than him, the father of a world that makes up a vast percentage of my life - and so I wanted to put together a small post of facts I love about him and a few reasons why I look up to the main man so much.

He came from a normal, humble, working family but was ambitious from the start - when he was only 7 years of age he would draw the horses from the farm near by and it is said that he would sell his sketches the neighbors

♥Originally European, Disney's ancestry originated in France, formerly 'D'Isigny'. Making Disneyland Paris an extra special place

♥Caring and compassionate from an early age, at 16 he was turned away when he tried to join the military. In 1918, however, he doctored his identification and successfully joined the red cross just before he turned 17, where he worked as an ambulance driver in France

He was NOT a high school graduate. Proof that anything is possible with work and determination and not always just qualifications♥

After dealing with miscarriage, having one daughter (Diane) and then suffering another loss, Walt and his wife Lillian supported adoption and brought their second daughter Sharon Mae into the family in such a wonderful way

A pioneer in his field he and his company are responsible for many 'firsts' in animation, whilst also winning more academy awards than anyone else.

Walt took chances and risks with Walt Disney Pictures and to finance the completion of his first ever feature length animation film, Snow White, he mortgaged his home. Crazy to think now that such a classic movie was ever thought of as a 'risk'

He wasn't an over night success and kept trying hard to pursue his dream after knock backs and even bankruptcy of his previous company Laugh-O-Gram

A multi talented individual who not only animated but appeared as an actor, producer and voice actor (he voiced the early Mickey Mouse too)

Although he smoked, he didn't like to been seen doing so as he didn't want to 'promote' such a bad habit

His numerous inspirational quotes prove not only his intelligence and eloquence, but his awesome view of the world and it's future. A pure, genuine, kind and fantastic soul

I know you liked to be known only by your first name, but Mr Disney, I can't call you anything but 'Mr' or 'Sir'. What a big miss you are to the world. A mind like yours could really be used right now to help the world repair, at least we have your fantastic creations to inspire us through the stories and teach our children the type of people to be.

Happy Birthday

  7. Aww, what a lovely post. I didn't know the majority of these facts, all the more reason to love him. It's times like these that I really wish I had a time machine and could go back in time to meet him (OBVIOUSLY I'd take you with me, Danielle!). People like Walt Disney are so rare. But at least we can enjoy the magic he left us and honour his legacy through his movies, and I think he would have liked that :) xxx
