The 'Lost In a Book' Tag

Another tag, indeed! Now, as this has been sat in my drafts for a matter of months and I didn't include a link as to where I got it, I couldn't really tell you who tagged me or where I found it - apologies! If it was you feel free to tell me off on Twitter or something and I'll edit to credit you :)
On with the tag...

Do you have a certain place at home for reading? Yes and no. When we moved into this house I bought a rocking chair and reconditioned it with the idea that it would sit in the bay window and be my reading area. However, after a year and 3 months in this place, I think I am still yet to read even a page while sat there! haha. I tend to mainly read in bed.
Where do you like to read? In bed, as I said above but also when on holiday - like by the pool etc but I haven't been on a holiday like that for around 8 years.
Bookmark or random piece of paper? I'd like to say bookmark but I don't own any and it's not something I'd just go out and buy myself. I may actually have to make myself a proper one on my printer...I could even sell them in my store - all of the ideas are flooding to me now lol. Now don't get angry at me, but I don't use a piece of paper either. Eek. I'm really bad and turn the corner of the page over, which annoys myself but I turn the tinest bit that I can!
(edit - since writing up this post many months ago, I have actually acquired a beautiful faux leather bookmark from the WB studio tour!)
Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop at a chapter? Usually I have to stop at the end of a chapter, but when reading in bed it just depends how long I can keep my eyes open for :P
Do you eat or drink whilst reading? Generally not, though I can do.
E-reader or real book? Real book!! This is a huge thing for me. I've never owned/used any kind of e-reader or tablet and although I obviously do spend a lot of time online what with blogging and such, I think certain things do not require technology to enjoy - especially reading. Not saying I don't think they are handy things for people, I'm just glad they are wiping out the printed word...plus I'm too scared I'd break it! Books look much more appealing lined up on a bookshelf too.
Music or TV while reading? Oh goodness no! I can multitask 'till the cows come home with stuff like housework and work on the laptop but things like reading a book I need 100% concentration.
One book at a time or several at once? See previous answer! Ha! If I were to read more than one at once I'd end up getting story lines crossed over and not be able to let my mind digest it, in the end taking more time to read them all than I would if I'd done it one at a time.
Reading at home or everywhere? Everywhere I guess. I'm quite looking forward to taking a book with me on the Eurostar later this year, though hopefully it won't make me motion sick as I can't read on a bus or in a car!
Reading aloud or silently in your head? Silently in my head. Again, for some reason I struggle to fully take it in when I read aloud.
Fiction or non-fiction? Both! I love a fantasy world though...
Do you read ahead or skip pages? :O Who does that?!
Break the spine or keep a book like new? Ask my Mam ;) haha As unbroken as possible please and if you borrow my books, like my Mam, and break them I'll not be best pleased. It's not always just as easy as to not crack the spine at all but people who literally bend it backwards on itself?...Just why?!
Do you write in your books? Again, negative. If you take a peek in the front covers of my Harry Potter books you'll see my name as I obviously got them when I was pretty young and apparently I was a fan of labeling anything I could with my name. But even with coursework and literature studying I would always use paper to take notes and never deface the book itself. It just feels wrong to me, I don't know how exactly but I just couldn't do it.
Your favourite book? Need you really ask?

I have no idea how many of you, or who, has completed this tag yet so if you haven't I tag you! I'd really like to see these guys in particular (if you like to read of course) and if you have already done it, sorry :)

  2. Oh I love this one. Although you might de-friend me if I confess that I do use and abuse my books something rotten.
I loved the rocking chair refurb and I very much imagined you sitting there in it day after day, devouring books... but now I know how crazy busy you are I'm not surprised it's not been used!

    1. Haha I wondered what was going to follow when you said 'de-friend' :P You should see the state of my Harry Potter books. Slightly gutted they are in such bad state as most of them are first editions too.
We've lived here around 15 months and still haven't got the rest of our front living room finished, but once it is I'll for sure be on my rocking chair more.

  3. This is such a good tag! Who skips pages?!! Haha!! I hate breaking spines on books, it really is one of my pet hates and at times I know it is unavoidable but still. I studied Classics & Latin at university so I'm a bit weird in that most of my books I have two copies of: one for reading only and the other for notes!

    Really enjoyed reading this post!

    1. I wish I knew had tagged me - I feel awful not crediting someone!!
Right? Why would you want to know the end before reading the story? Ah now you see, that's okay if you have two copies! Maybe a little more expensive but a pretty good idea.

  4. I love this fun tag...

I used to be so against e-readers but LOVE my Kindle. I tend to switch every other book from real to Kindle books. I love them equally.

Glad you have a bookmark now. I'll take old cards that friends send sometime & tear the front off & use that a lot as bookmarks :)

    1. You should definitely do this tag too!
I love the idea of old cards from friends as bookmarks - they'll be like little memories when you open your book! So sweet.

  5. Ooh I think I might do this tag, if that's ok? It's perfect for me! Haha. And I agree with you on so many of these points! I need 100% concentration for my reading, I like to finish at the end of a chapter, I hate defacing books with writing on them. But I hate turning down the pages, and I have a plethora of bookmarks (I have a friend in America who makes them and sells them, but periodically she sends me some to say hello and check in with me! I must have 10 or more now. Haha! So if you ever need some more, let me know ;)) x www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x

I hated doing it too to be honest but apparently was too lazy to make my own haha. Glad I have one now!

  6. Ah yay, I love this tag! I spotted it over on Louise's blog and instantly thought of you when I did it - love the Harry Potter photos you included - such an iconic series for all book lovers. I have to confess, I am a bit of a spine breaker (which sounds awful out of context!) but I do care for books that have been leant to me or borrowed - I'd never break the spine of a book that wasn't mine - early morning unintentional rhyming there! - Tasha

    1. Yay!! Gosh, that makes me sad that I'm so terrible at reading blogs that I missed it!! Haha Yes, I hope the only spines you're breaking are books ;)

  8. As much as I love books, I do love my kindle. Since we don't plan to stay here, I don't like to acquire books because they are a pain to move. Plus I can take them all with me on my Kindle. I can't read on my phone or whatever, the screen is way to bright but I love the e-ink screens that Kindle's have. Plus, there's 100,000s of free books on there to enjoy :)

I never bother getting to the end of chapters, I just stop anywhere, usually when I fall asleep in the book!

I also skip ahead, actually no, I read the synopsis on Wikipedia... I have to know what happens. I do it for films, TV, books, anything that I can read about and know what will happen before it does. I'm really not into surprises or not knowing things.

    1. That was another reason that put me off getting you that book for Christmas! I thought it'd just be another unnecessary thing to pack when you move! It is cool how handy they can be for stuff like that.

I must admit I fall asleep during reading more regularly now and then Jake ends up coming to bed and having to take the book out my hands.

I don't like surprises in real life but I love twists and unexpected endings in books and movies I must admit!

  9. This is a brilliant tag, so much so I am going to have to give it a go too!
The spine crackers!! They need to stop. One of my friends admitted it's the first thing she does with a new book is crack the spine - like you mentioned fully bending it back style! I told her in no uncertain terms that is never borrowing a book from me.

Oh gosh I know! I've read a couple of these from other people and they say they do it...it makes me cringe lol.
:O No way would I let her lend any of mine either haha

  10. You tag me so well! Going to work on this one right now and have it up this week! I was in need of a new tag post! :D Oooh I get so nervous when I borrow books from people and the spines haven't been broken! I can't handle the pressure of keeping them so pristine!
