What We Got for Easter 2016!

At the last minute, I decided to put this post together. Originally I wasn't going to bother as in the past I've had iffy comments about why we do gifts at Easter (especially when I don't follow a religion) but as I've documented it the past two years, I thought I'd keep it going for my own memory's sake.
Before we start I'll just say the reason we celebrate Easter is just like why we do Halloween - that being a celebration of the season and new life (or the end of the harvest season for Halloween of course).

Now I'll let you have a nosey at our gifts!

For any excuse I can use, I'll get Baker a forage box of goodies from Barks and Bunnies! It's been a mini tradition type of deal since we first started using them as our go-to pet store back in March 2014, and as we couldn't afford it last Xmas I had to make up for it for his Easter.
I ordered a little early out of enthusiasm so had to hide the box for a couple weeks! You know, as soon as he sees them he knows what it is and wants it open - there are actually a couple videos on my YouTube channel of him opening previous boxes if you want to see how much fun he has - so when he finally got his paws on it, he was pretty chuffed.

Anyways, in this year's box I got him -

We love that we can be confident anything bought from B&Bs will be the best quality and healthy for Baker. The ball has just started being stocked on their site which is fab for us it being our fave ball ever. This is probably the 5th we have bought now over the past 4 years because they are so perfect, and not because they have broken or anything. One was actually stolen by a group of kids while we were playing with it at the field once, another got lost in a barley field. He has one that stays at his Grannies house and one did actually split though after incessant chewing over a year or so. They are durable, float, bounce, fit into ball throwers and is slightly textured which was a great soother when he was a teething puppy.
The soap was an excellent find too as I had planned on buying the needed ingredients and essential oils to make my own wash what with little man's sensitive skin, but this has everything in it that I required. It actually lathered really well which I wasn't expecting, left his coat super soft and smelt lovely.

I ended up with two extra soft toys for the boyo too as he loves a teddy and I get him a Spring themed one each year, so this year a piglet was added to his chick, bunny, cockerel and lamb family. The koala was a random purchase at TX Maxx but I thought I'd pop it in his cute carrot Easter basket so the piglet had a pal.

Lastly, I made a batch of my homemade doggy biscuits (sweeties as he knows them by) which have gone down so well that he kept standing by the fridge crying for more.

As for myself, my Mam was very generous again this year. I received a beautiful bunch of Daffodils as well as some mini Daffys for my front garden, some money and a big bag of chocolate for once my Dechox was over!
Jake got an Easter egg, some other chocolates and his pacey-new - a Zoo York Olive coloured crew and a Zoo York baseball tee.

To see what we have gotten in previous years, you can check out the links below!

Thank you to Mam and Dad for everything and going halfers on Bakers forage box! Oh and just to point out, we are in no way affiliated with or sponsored by Barks and Bunnies, we just really love them and think more people need to support family run businesses :)

  1. Lovely gifts, Baker looks like he loves his box of treats.
Why would anybody care if you celebrate a religious holiday or not? I'm not religious either and I celebrate Easter and Christmas, as I celebrate Halloween and Valentine's Day and I even went to a EID parade a few years ago. For me it's about family and our traditions, our joy of being together and spend quality time with each other.

    1. I agree. I'm not religious either and I celebrate holidays like Easter and Christmas that are traditions in my family. I find that, in addition to the family tradition aspect, I can appreciate the story behind the holiday even if I don't adhere to the religion surrounding it.

    3. Yes, Danielle! Exactly! I have written posts in the past talking about the history and origin of certain holidays. Whether I believe in God or not doesn't mean I can't appreciate the stories.

  2. First things first, well done for being you and posting this! I don't know why anyone could take issue with it but people are funny (especially on t'interwebs).

So, I could look at Baker all day long!! Barks and Bunnies did well with that box, they've become my go to pet store too - I'm pretty sure I discovered them through you and Baker first, so thanks for that!

  3. You get some really nice pictures of Baker! He seems to pose well, or is that just an illusion? ;) I know it can be hard to get dogs to sit still for pictures, but based on some of the pics I've seen of Baker he seems to be a good model.

I love that you are supporting a family-run business! I think that's so important in the age of the megastore. I wish we could go back to a time when stores were all small, family-run businesses.

    1. Thank you!! He is amazing - a little model. You can bet if I pull the camera out he'll come and sit and wait for me to take his photo lol. I have a whole blog post on how to photograph your pet actually.

It is isn't it?! I wish all stores were specialty stores too. Like now the supermarket has everything. Where I'd prefer a greengrocer, media stores, flower stores etc to be separate.

  4. The first thing I thought when I saw this post "aww, look at Baker opening his present!" He's so adorable! I think it's really nice that you do gifts for Easter. My OH and I usually exchange Easter eggs, or some kind of chocolate, and his mother usually gets us a little egg too. But that's about it! x www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x

  5. How can anyone be funny with you doing easter presents! We normally do presents rather than chocolate especially when I was younger, but now I have to admit I much prefer the naughty treats haah!
If anything it's Baker that's been spoilt and who needs an excuse to spoil their pooch haah! Glad to see he's doing alright and you are too! Much love x

    1. Oh people seem to be offended/anoyed by anything these days ;)
Presents make much more sense for kids to me, rather than pumping them full of sweets.
I wish all dogs got treat like my dog does! haha

  7. Just because I don't do Easter as a person, does not mean I wouldn't buy Chopster Easter stuff, or halloween stuff on anything else, just because he's too cute not to have gifts :)

I bought him a gift the other day, he turned his nose up at it and just picked out the bits of carrot. The butt head.

    1. Yes. No excuse is needed for buying pet gifts. You can get such cool things for hamsters too. Bless him, he knows what he wants!
