The Making of Harry Potter // Part 9

The Back Lot. A breather from the crowds, some fresh air and even the odd flurry of fake snow when visiting in December! Here is where the main exterior sets and vehicles are housed. There are a few picnic tables too but as it was winter we opted to eat inside the dining hall/cafe which looks out onto the lot through a huge glass wall.
Of course, just as I did when moving through most of the big sections, I was emotional when coming out into the back lot and so a little group of 'super cool' teenage girls sat at a picnic table had a good giggle at me...sorry for actually being a fan and caring deeply about the world hence paying to visit. Dunno why you are there but I'm here to cry my eyes out at the sight of things I have been emotionally attached to for over 14 years ;)

Anyways, I don't think there is too much to say about these photos so I'll let you just have a nosey.

Obviously, first you can see the Knight Bus! It would have been a little more exciting had there been a small platform at the left-hand side of it so you could see inside but it's still fun that the back is open for you to take photos on. Luckily we timed it when it was quiet so I didn't have to pose for a photo while others were waiting as in that case I'd have just given it a miss.
Moving around clockwise we then had Privet Drive which I'm gutted I didn't get more photos of but that was due to crowds starting to gather. Then we have the Potters Cottage at Godric's Hollow and I did actually shed a tear here <3 It was weirdly quiet while we stood there and it's one of the only times I wished there had been deep snow, so I could feel like Hermione and Harry during the Christmas visit.
Again, we were super lucky to get to Hogwarts Bridge during a lull in crowds and had to run to the end of the bridge to swap places and get photos of each other on it before people came.
Now, of course, I know it's going to be busy and people are inevitably going to be in the background of your photos but me, when I see people trying to get a nice photo, I move out of the way if possible or turn my back. Not here, we had people practically getting into the car with us and leaning on it so for my photo you can see obvious over cropping and a lot of photoshopping the remaining areas to rid the photo-bombers. How rude!
As you can see the last thing is a few more of the chess pieces like you see out front of the building before entering the tour and that's about it until the next post. :)

P.S Butterbeer was gross. I had a sip and dumped out the rest...we saw many others do the same too haha.

    1. I didn't like it anyway. The foam stuff was nice and butterscotchy but the liquid part was not appealing to me and clashed with the foam. I know! Only 3 more... Though after the last one goes up in December, my Disneyland Paris posts will begin in January!

  4. Awww, Danielle I am loving these posts - each one takes me back to the films and books over and over again! I loved the photos you took on the Knight Bus, so cool, and definitely one of my favourite moments from the stories. Love that golden light on the butterbeer too, sorry to hear it didn't taste very good though! - Tasha

    1. Thank you!! That's great to hear. Because it's been so long since I was there it's the same for me when I'm looking back editing them! I love the Knight Bus scene - it's great!

  5. Ugh, I totally agree, the butterbeer is horrible, just like you we took a sip or two and that was enough, luckily there was a huge group of us and we shared them. Oooh I know what you mean... what is wrong with people, they can clearly see you're taking a photo why can't they move out of the way so you can get a good photo and then you'll move out of their way so they can do the same. That really annoys me when people are so inconsiderate. Great post. ♥ A Teal Soul

    1. Haha really?! It must be an acquired taste eh?
I should have posted the before and after of that photo as you can see they know what they are doing and think they are being funny. It's not funny, just rude!

      Thank you!

  6. You're photo editing skills are awesome then - I can't tell at all where you had to photoshop it or anything! It's so annoying when people are rude like that, like, just wait your turn! It'll still be there!

I really wanna go again, they've added so much stuff since I went a good few years ago. I don't think the flying car was there, I'm sure I'd remember it!

    1. Haha thanks! I'll send you a photo on twitter showing the original and you'll be able to tell ;) It is rude though, I'm glad I'm not being overly stuck up or something.

Oh for sure! The Hogwarts Express is there now and they've opened the Dursley's House since I was there.
