The Nightmare Before Christmas Book

Twas the night (mare) before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that the new Nightmare Before Christmas book soon would be there.
;)

How absolutely stunning is this book?! You can tell just from the front cover how pretty it is. I saw it popping up now and again on Twitter when people were sharing photos and I loved the look of it so decided I'd stick it on my wishlist. That's when the wonderful Sarah stepped in again and announced she was now my official Fairy Godmother, in other words she was going to send me a press copy! Eeek.
When it arrived it was even prettier than expected and I did shed a couple tears while reading it to Baker. I don't just like The Nightmare Before Christmas because the movie is a Disney release, I am also a biiig Tim Burton fan. His artwork, his style and his twistedly cute universes.

The Nightmare Before Christmas was Burtons first (written and illustrated) book, originally published in 1991, the movie following in 1993 through Disney's Touchstone Pictures distribution label when it was deemed a little too dark to be downright Disney! However, Disney re-issued the story in 2006 as a Walt Disney Pictures movie....which makes this year the 20th Anniversary! Cue this awesome book to commemorate it!

Not only is this a perfectly put together piece of literary art that fans like myself will treasure, it includes 'never seen before original sketches' which I for one am all about. While photographing it for this post I obviously didn't want to include too much so as to spoil you all, I want you to go grab this for yourself to see and appreciate - but it was so difficult to choose exactly what to show. I didn't even include some of my faves because they are just too good to not see first in person.

Despite it being a book that would more than be suitable for children and a lovely storytime book for any night, (but especially from October through December) I think this copy of The Nightmare Before Christmas - priced at £12.99 - will particularly attract those of us who grew up with the twisted tale and will look after it, wanting to revel in the perfection, keeping it in our collections or even sharing it with their own children.

What do you guys think of this? Any fellow Burton or The Nightmare fans? I know NBC is a huge cult favorite and has a giant following so I'm sure that this will be put onto many a Christmas wish list now!

  4. This is stunning, and the illustrations are just gorgeous! I love his art style, it's whimsical and dark at the same time and TNBC will always hold a special place in my heart. It was one of the first films I was properly into and I loved the soundtrack. Stunning! - Tasha

    1. I know! It's stunning! Despite it coming out when I was a toddler, I don't think I saw/heard about it until I was maybe 12ish. Hard pushed to find anything by Burton that I don't like though!
