25 Random Facts About Me

It's been a little while since I did an 'easy', personal, facts about me post. I thought what with having passed the 5 year blogiversary mark back in November and having a few new readers that it'd be cool to share some things people might not know about me...especially if we don't talk via social media etc.
Oh, and when I say easy - haha! I mean the opposite. You have no idea how long it took me to put this basic list together. I'd lovvve to hear from you with either links to your own fact posts or if you can relate to any of my facts - so let me know in the comments below :)

If you didn't know by now...I'm a Hufflepuff! My letter DID come too.

I am super into ancestry and heritage. I've traced my male lines on both sides back to around the early/mid 1700s by myself. I've come to a bit of a standstill as being a borderer makes finding records difficult and Scottish records are pretty hard to come by online so need to visit the archives.

An ethnicity DNA test is also something I would really, really like to do.

The physical traits I struggle with most are my wonky teeth and my very thin, fine hair.

Despite having flown every year from age 2 - 14, again at 19 & 24 and jumping out of a plane for my charity Skydive at 22, I am poop scared of planes and will never, ever step foot on an aircraft again.

I adore real wood furniture and 85% of the furniture in our house is beautiful dark woods. #NoToPaintingWood #BeGoneAnnieSlone haha

My musical taste could probably not be any more eclectic than it is! Of course, I love Disney movie soundtracks and classical scores but I am also a big hip hop fan and if you've seen my chest tattoo you'll realize Jimmy Eat World is one of my favorite bands. I like a lot of music! Sadly I don't listen to as much as I did as a teen.

At the time of writing this, my Disney movie collection stands at 248 DVDs. All 55 of the Classic Animated Canon, all 17 of the Pixar collection, 160 live action and the others miscellaneous.

Baker, my dog, really truly is my best friend ever.

My worst nightmare of a job would be anything in an office setting. Or obviously talking in front of more than 1 person.

According to Jake, I am a 'bum head' (I asked him for a fact about me). We have been together 5 years and 9 months...somehow. haha

I never went to uni and I am 100% chuffed with that decision. Don't let anyone tell you further education is the only way forward.

Broccoli and cucumber are two of my all-time favorite foods. I would probably live off them if I could. Bit of tomato sauce to dip them in too! Yum!

Baker, Bunny, Nike, Mousen, Bear, Travis, Pepsi, Halo, Shady, Patch and Snowdrop are the names of all the furry pets I have had in my life.

I have a whole list of phobias. I guess you could say I'm a big scardey cat. They include:
Enochlophobia
[Crowds - for me busy high streets, shopping centers/ shops in general, concerts/shows that are not seated and very busy seated ones]
 Agoraphobia
[Open Spaces - for me this is anywhere where there isn't something I can put my back against...so wide open waters/sea or a large outdoor area where I cannot easily get to the edge]
Arachnophobia
[Spiders - one of the most common phobias that I assume a vast percentage of people have]
 Lepidopterophobia / Mottephobia
[ Butterflies and Moths. I don't understand how anyone can find them beautiful and they are one of the only bad things about Summer.]
Trypophobia
[Technically holes. If you have this I'm sure you'll know what I mean. Even the word makes my whole skin crawl as it makes me think about it. There was an image that did the rounds on facebook a couple years ago that showed a particular plant photoshopped (unbeknownst to most) onto a body part that made it look like a horrible impression or wound which made me look into this fear more]
That was a big list...

I collect DVDs and Books (Disney and non-Disney) , as well as smaller collections of Disney soft toys, special Disney pins and other random stuff.

People say I'm a prude, but I just do not want to know about/discuss etc inappropriate, indecent or promiscuous subjects.

If I had no responsibilities, family or home, but did have better health, doing a long trek similar to the Appalachian Trail would be an absolute dream. Being able to do it with Baker would be even better but you know, health and safety risks etc.

I prefer Halloween to Christmas. Actually, I really don't like Christmas at all, to be honest.

It has now been over 5 years and 5 months since I have drunk any alcohol at all. I don't plan to ever again either. :)

I really like trains. Like old trains - Steam trains etc. [See here]

As a child I was a Brownie. I quit not long after Burns night when the other girls made fun of me for not eating haggis. Years later I re-joined that world as a young leader for the rainbows! I would love to be involved in it again but kids these days are not my favorite people.

I'm definitely a morning person. With working at 6am every morning I'm used to getting up early and now I'm not a fan of being up any later than 9.30pm.

My favorite colours are green and yellow!

Anthropomorphism. Do you know what that is? I didn't either until recently. However, I have personified inanimate objects and animals since I was a child and still do. It's so bad that if there are two chocolate bunnies left, for example, I have to take both as I can leave one to be lonely.
As a kid I would tuck all my soft toys in and kiss them at bedtime each night. As well as so much more.

There we have it! Just a few facts about me. I hope you learnt something about me, let me know if you share any traits, found anything weird or had a laugh at all lol! Thanks for reading!

Just a quick edit to this post to shout out the wonderful Dee (whose blog I have loved for a long time) as she actually tagged me in the 20 Things You Didn't Know About Me tag on her blog last week (last week from the day this goes up)! It's such great timing, as a lot of you probably know I pre-write and schedule my posts a couple weeks to a couple months ahead of time. This time it means I'm actually able to participate - well, somewhat - in a tag without being months behind haha.
Make sure to pop over and read Dee's post and give her a follow, she is one of the loveliest bloggers out there.

  1. Oh my goodness! Finally I've found somebody else who hates bufferflies and moths as much as me! Everybody I have ever come across thinks I'm so weird for this, but I cannot stand them fluttering around me! And I don't get what people like so much about butterflies. They're just pretty moths in my eyes! 😂

    1. Ahaha yep! Everyone thinks I'm weird too. Their horrible! My ex forced me to go in the butterfly house at London Zoo years ago and it was the worst thing ever :(

  2. It's so interesting. I like reading these facts. I can't imagine how you can't love butterflies, I adore them. I'm not comfortable in crowds either, but for me is not a phobia, it's something else. I loved your post. xx

    1. Thank you! haha I know, so many people love them and just don't understand it but then again, I don't understand people who are scared of birds or dogs so I guess we're all just different.
Crowds are awful aren't they. One of the big reasons I HATE going to London..I just feel ill the whole time I'm there usually.

  3. We are very similar! I always thought I was alone in my fear of moths and butterflies - so glad I'm not! I was at my future MIL's house the other day, sitting on her kitchen stairs. There was a still moth only a foot or less away from me on the mat. I asked her about it and she said she thought it must be dead as it had been there all morning and not moved (from a fairly well trafficked area!) She proceeded to brush it into a dustpan, or try to, and the bloody thing flew right towards me. Cue me screaming and future MIL guiding the moth out of the door! I also used to be terrified of any of my stuffed animals feeling left out, so would sleep with all of them in bed with me. It got a little cramped, and warm, as time went on! www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk

    1. It must be why we get along :)
Oh my gosh, no! Worst nightmare. I think it was a similar situation that spurred my fear..though it was the worlds biggest moth (or the biggest I've seen anyway haha). Blurgh!!!
Aww we would have been good friends as kids!! I dunno if it's weird that I still feel like that ha. I genuinely think that everything comes alive when I'm not there. lol

  4. Oh my gosh! I loved this!

I love ancestry too! If I could actually talk my dad into doing the DNA thingy I would - I think it would help him get into looking more into his family tree. He knows he's Scottish as well on his mother's side, but according to my grandmother we're also Native American too! I'm on the fence about that because despite the fact that is like family folklore nobody knows what tribe we come from!

I'm also Dutch, Irish, German and something else on my mom's side of the family. We can go back to about mid-1600s on my nana's tree. My papaw's family came over on the Mayflower! Do you know if you have any family members that found in wars? I have revolutionary war and civil war soldiers. Okay, now I'm just rambling, I'm gonna go now. Lol

    1. Thank you!!

Yes! I knew you were into it too. That would be SO cool. Native American ancestry sounds so amazing aswell. I think a lot of Americans seem to have a really interesting background but me, I'm just Scottish and English as far back as we know. I'd love to know back to like Viking times etc and know if we came from anything like that haha.
The Mayflower?! That is so exciting to think about! Nope, not really. A couple of WW1 soldiers I think but nothing 'special'. We were mainly Shepherds/Farmers, ship builders and miners! Pretty boring to most people I think, but I love it. I need to get futher back worked out though.

Not at all! I love talking about it!!!

  5. Urgh to moths ! I'm trying to come round and be braver - I'm certainly better with them than I was a few years ago, but they're certainly not m favourites!
I'd love to explore my ancestry - I wouldn't know where to start but I'll get round to it one day!

    1. They are horrible things. Goodness knows their function on the planet.

Do it! Give it a try when Ancestry.com has a free weekend or something on to get your started..then you have to delve a little further is your family is like mine and not important enough to have many records haha.

  6. Ahhh, my favourite colour is green too! :D I always love these types of posts, I love getting to know my favourites a bit better. I love Jimmy Eat World, they're so good, and I've got a very eclectic music taste too, I don't think there's a single genre I'm not keen on, I'm very easily pleased, haha! I love your skydive for Monkey World too, that's so, so cool! Loved this Danielle. - Tasha
